Alpha is a lightweight 2D top-down retro-graphics game animation design and playback library built upon Slick2D with Java. It focuses on dynamic loading, which allows users to customise the layout of their project files.
The idea of Alpha is to be able to create animated cut-scenes either for a game intro/outro or for pure entertainment, and will let users work with file types they already know, following some easy guidelines to create a scene. The project plans to introduce 2 programs: Alpha and Beta.
Alpha will be the scene player for projects, which are created in Beta, an user-friendly GUI editor designed to ease the creation of a new scene. With the introduction of Beta, there would be almost no need to learn SCP, as Beta will automatically generate these project files.
Both Alpha and Beta are still in very early stages of development, some preview (or pre-release) versions of Alpha are available for download now, but they would require manual project setup. If you’re interested, simply download a copy of Alpha and take a look at the file hierarchy and project setup. Submit any issues if found, and perhaps provide feedback on how Alpha could be improved for the next version.
Looking forward to them? So am I! You can help make Alpha better! Download the latest available pre-release and submit any issues, problems, frustrations or suggestions here, on JGO or on GitHub! Many thanks to those who did!
